Sexual and fertility issues are one of the most common unaddressed issues of chemotherapy .

Chemotherapy can but does not always affect sexual organs and their functioning. The main problem noted is a reduction in the number of sperms. This can affect fertility, but not the ability to have satisfactory sexual intercourse. In woman, chemotherapy can have more wide-ranging effects as follows:

Damage to ovaries resulting in hormonal deficiencies, the menstrual period may become irregular or stop completely during chemotherapy, menopausal-like symptoms may arise and infertility may result.

Pregnancy during chemotherapy to either partner is not advisable. These drugs can influence the sperms or the ova. Effective birth control measures should be taken.
