What is Lung Cancer?

Lung cancer is one of the most common cancer. It is seen more in tobacco smokers. They normally have cough ,weight loss ,fatigue ,weakness ,chest pain and blood while coughing. There are two main types of lung cancer Non small cell lung cancer or small cell lung cancer.
If someone has these problems , they should report to the doctor immediately and should get their Xray , CT scan or biopsy done as advised by the doctor.
The stage of cancer depends upon how big the tumour is and how far the cancer has spread in the body . There are four stages of lung cancer.Staging also allows doctors to decide what kind of treatment can be given.
Treatment
Treatment of lung cancer depends upon the stage of the disease and on the type of cancer.
- Surgery to remove the tumour are usually done in stage 1 and stage 2. this procedure of treatment is mainly done to remove the tumour.
- Chemotherapy are drugs which are given to patients as injections . In stage 3 , patients receive both chemotherapy and radiotherapy . In stage IV , patients receive chemotherapy and immunotherapy .
- Immunotherapy are used in stage III or IV lung cancer . There are injections which are given along with chemotherapy .
- There are also certain oral tablets which can be given in stage IV lung cancers . Their usage depends on certain specific types of lung cancer.
- Radiotherapy is normally given in stage III disease along with chemotherapy . It can also be used in stage IV disease for spread of disease to other areas like brain , bone etc.
